Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. subsp. pekinensis) is an annual plant and a subspecies of the Brassica family. It originates from the northern parts of China and Japan. Although it is now widely known and often found on our tables, it only reached Europe and the United States in the 1930s. It grows in many parts of the world with temperate climates.
Chinese cabbage is a low-calorie vegetable, containing about 40 calories per 100 grams. It is rich in fiber and differs from vegetables in its high protein content. It contains the same amount of vitamin C as lemon, plus vitamins B, E, K, and A.
Chinese cabbage is recommended for consumption as an ingredient of the main course, as an accompaniment to salads and also in the form of a juice.
