Despite the dangers posed by perchloric acid, it remains the subject of intensive research. Scientists are examining its structure, reactivity, and potential applications more closely to better understand and control its properties.

A current field of research is the use of perchloric acid in battery technology. Here, it could be used as an electrolyte in high-performance batteries, as it exhibits high conductivity. However, safety concerns must first be addressed for this purpose.

Furthermore, scientists are researching how perchloric acid can be used in medicine. Initial studies suggest that due to its oxidative effect, it could potentially be used as a disinfectant or cancer therapeutic. However, extensive safety tests are still required here.
