Wild rice originates from North America and is cultivated primarily in the United States, Canada, but also in Australia and Hungary. It is not, in fact, a type of rice, but rather a different kind of panacea.
A single grain of wild rice is elongated, shiny, and black-brown in color. It has a more intense flavor than most rice varieties we know and a slightly different nutritional value. Wild rice contains twice as much protein as white rice and at least twice as much fiber.
