The dietary supplement is a patented formulation from Digezyme that supports digestion. It contains five digestive enzymes: amylase, protease, cellulose, lactose, and lipase. The enzymes are not of animal origin and are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down starch and other polysaccharides. Lactase is responsible for the hydrolysis of lactose into monosaccharides: glucose and galactose. Lactase is essential for digestion during the hydrolysis of lactose in milk. A deficiency of this enzyme can cause a group of symptoms known as lactose intolerance. Lipase is responsible for the breakdown of lipids, cellulase breaks down cellulose, and protease breaks down proteins and peptides, i.e., amino acids. Protease is of bacterial origin.
