The active ingredient in milk thistle is silymarin, which is extracted from milk thistle seeds. Silymarin is a type of flavonoid (silybin, silidanin, silycristin) that helps regenerate damaged liver cells caused by alcohol or toxic substances. Silymarin also prevents toxins from damaging new liver cells. It is recommended for hepatitis sufferers because of its anti-inflammatory properties and its powerful antioxidant action.
