Typically, propolis consists of 50% resinous substances, 30% beeswax, 10% aromatic oils, and 5% pollen (the composition may vary depending on the season and region). Propolis pieces can be used to make homemade ointments, drops, and creams. It contains flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolic acids, as well as numerous compounds with powerful antioxidant properties that help reduce the damaging effects of free radicals.
