Wasabi is a plant that grows in shallow, cold mountain streams in Japan. It is sometimes called Japanese horseradish, although it is not related to European horseradish. The thick wasabi shoots are gently grated, creating a bright green paste with a pungent flavor. It is added to most fresh fish dishes. In sushi, a small amount of wasabi is spread between a slice of fish and rice. It can also be used as a condiment for cold dishes and snacks and is great mixed with mayonnaise.
Mix the powder with water in such a ratio that it reaches the consistency of thick cream. After 10 minutes, it will acquire its full aroma.
Since natural wasabi is difficult to obtain and expensive, an excellent substitute has been produced for many years using European horseradish, mustard, starch, and coloring. Hence the product's name: wasabi horseradish (90% of products sold in Poland are substitutes!!!). Wasabi horseradish powder is often used in sushi bars.
Use:
We recommend using the following ratio: 3 tablespoons of cold water to 5 tablespoons of wasabi powder. After thoroughly mixing, the resulting paste should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator to preserve its aroma and pungency, and used as soon as possible.
