Made from pasteurized cream, it's easy to spread on bread and contains half the fat of butter, making it an interesting alternative.
Mascarpone is most commonly used in desserts and cakes—most notably as the main ingredient in Italian tiramisu. In warm dishes, it enriches the flavor of many pasta sauces, meat and vegetable dishes, and pizza. It is made from milk from cows fed on feed free from genetically modified organisms.
