The color of the shell is somewhat reminiscent of hazelnuts. Inside is a tender, creamy pulp. What do they taste like? They are comparable to cashews, but have a more sweet and salty aftertaste. Their flavor can be enhanced by roasting. One macadamia nut weighs approximately 3 grams. A handful of this delicacy contains about 40 grams and up to 300 calories! The oil extracted from them has a pleasant aroma and valuable ingredients for the skin, which is why it is often used in the cosmetics industry. Macadamia nut butter has softening, moisturizing, and smoothing properties. It is especially recommended for sensitive skin.
The macadamia tree can grow up to 5 meters tall. However, it bears fruit very late, only after 5 years. It grows wild in Australia, Indonesia, and New Caledonia. Currently, the largest cultivation areas for macadamia nuts are Hawaii and South Africa. Industrial-scale cultivation in Poland is not possible. Macadamia trees thrive best in subtropical climates; they dislike shade and frost, but do require plenty of moisture. However, an ornamental macadamia tree can be planted in a pot at home. For this purpose, split nuts are used, not cuttings. However, the plant is very demanding to grow.
Are macadamia nuts healthy? They contain beneficial micronutrients (calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium) and vitamins (vitamins A, E, and B). This helps maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails. They are characterized by their high protein, fiber, and carbohydrate content. Up to 70% of all nutrients are fats. These are mainly monounsaturated fatty acids (so-called "good fats"): oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, and icosine acid, which help maintain normal cholesterol levels. Because of their presence, macadamia nuts should be present in our diet. According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the energy we get from food should come from so-called "good fats." It is important to use macadamia nuts sparingly as a substitute for other products.
