Lutein is a naturally occurring yellow-orange pigment belonging to the carotenoid group. The "free" lutein contained in this product comes from marigold extract. The most important property of carotenoids is their antioxidant effect (they neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals). Lutein (one of the carotenoids with the most powerful antioxidant properties) neutralizes free radicals that form in the eyeball under the influence of sunlight and the oxidative damage that initiates them. Zeaxanthin is found in the lens and retina of the eye, particularly in the macula, which is responsible for visual acuity.
