Coral limestone is a completely natural fossilized powder, a type of salt and calcium, extracted only from fossilized coral reefs. Coral limestone is mined from the clear seabed near the subtropical Japanese island of Okinawa. The coral reef consists of marine invertebrates called corals, which secrete calcium salts to regulate the pH of the surrounding water. The mineral skeleton of corals is characterized by a high content of calcium, more specifically calcium carbonate, and is also the source of many other naturally occurring minerals in the sea, including magnesium, zinc, iron, and potassium. Coral limestone contains the same calcium to magnesium ratio (2:1, or about 20% calcium and 10% magnesium) as our bones. These minerals are unique in that they naturally occur in a highly ionized form (up to 92%) and are therefore better absorbed than the weakly ionized form, even by people with digestive problems.
