Japanese Sofora (Styphnolobium japonicum (L.) Schott) is a species and tree of the Fabaceae family. Its name derives from the characteristic shape of the fruit, which resembles strings of pearls. It also contains large amounts of flavonoids (up to 30%), primarily rutosides (rutin). It also contains soforoside, sorabielazide, glycosides, essential oils, an acid complex, and other substances.
