DESCRIPTION

Inulin, which occurs naturally in chicory, is a fructo-oligosaccharide, a dietary fiber with a very low glycemic index of 14 and a calorie content of 1.6 kcal/g, meaning it does not raise glucose levels. Inulin is one of the prebiotics that increases the levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut, primarily bifidobacteria. The beneficial effects of bifidobacteria include lowering intestinal pH, increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids and vitamins, and stimulating the gut, thereby increasing the efficiency of digestion and absorption. It can also boost immunity by providing a medium for the growth of beneficial intestinal flora. It also influences the bioavailability of certain minerals such as magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron.
