DESCRIPTION
Hojicha is an exception among Japanese teas and is unlike any other green tea in terms of taste. Hojicha comes from leaves harvested in the fall and is roasted at high temperatures, giving the leaves a dark brown color. This process also gives it its unique smoky aroma and sweet flavor with caramel and nutty notes. Roasting also removes Hojicha's caffeine content, making it suitable for bedtime drinking and for children of pregnant women. The roasting process for green tea was invented in Kyoto in the 1920s, and since then, Hojicha has enjoyed increasing popularity far beyond Japan.

Drinking Hojicha helps regulate cholesterol and sugar levels in the body and strengthens the immune system. Like Genmaicha, Hojicha is often served with meals in Japan. It can be brewed multiple times, although three brews are generally optimal. Moya Hojicha comes from a small family and organic farm on the southern island of Kiushu. The production process takes place in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, where it is also certified and rigorously tested for possible contaminants.
