Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica Plenck) is an annual plant that is a type of vegetable cabbage. Broccoli is considered the ancestor of cauliflower and likely originated in Cyprus. It was widely cultivated in ancient Greece and Rome. The name broccoli comes from the Italian word broccolo (Latin brachium), meaning branch or arm. It is a cultivated plant; it does not occur in the wild.
Broccoli is an extremely healthy vegetable; among other things, it has a number of beneficial effects. Depending on the condition of the digestive tract, regular consumption can prevent many diseases. Due to its low calorie content, low glycemic index, and high protein content, kale is especially recommended for people trying to lose weight.
