Nigella - what is it?

Nigella [Latin: Nigella sativa ] is a plant native to southeastern Europe and western Asia. The herb's raw material is its small, black, oily seeds. When ground, their aroma is somewhat reminiscent of oregano. Cumin is a seed plant belonging to the buttercup family. Its distinctive feature is its characteristic blue flowers, which often adorn garden beds and enhance bouquets. However, it is known worldwide for its seeds, which are used as a spice and medicinal raw material. They are hidden in what is known as the bellows and are sometimes called black cumin because of their appearance and flavor.

Cumin - culinary use

Nigella seeds are characterized by a spicy, slightly bitter-spicy flavor, somewhere between poppy seeds and pepper. Interestingly, cumin can be used as a pepper substitute in cooking for people with sensitive stomachs, as this plant does not irritate mucous membranes. For this reason, cumin, like pepper, has a very rich culinary application. It perfectly enhances the flavor of meats such as mutton, lamb, game, or poultry. It enriches a variety of vegetable dishes made with cabbage, zucchini, or other roasted vegetables. Recently, it has enjoyed particular popularity as an addition to white cheese. So be sure to try a good Korycin cheese with this wonderful spice! Cumin oil, in addition to its numerous medicinal properties, can enhance the flavor of many dishes.

Tips

• Store it in airtight containers. For this reason, each of our spice packs has a zipper closure for easy opening and closing. Nigella in regular foil not only loses its beautiful aroma very quickly after opening, but it can also easily fall out of the packaging, for example, in a drawer or cupboard. Your convenience is important to us!
• When handling caraway oil, remember that it should only be used cold! It should never be heated.
