Allspice - Properties

Allspice is the fruit of the allspice tree, also known as the spice bush (Pimenta dioica ). It is native to the tropical regions of Central America and Mexico. Some of the produce shipped to Europe comes from Jamaica. The allspice tree grows up to 10-12 meters tall, is evergreen, and has leathery, glossy leaves. The fruits are green, turning red upon ripening and taking on a beautiful brown color when dried. The allspice fruits for food use are harvested before they are ripe. Interestingly, allspice is the only spice grown exclusively in the Western Hemisphere.

Allspice in regular foil not only loses its beautiful aroma very quickly after opening, but it can also easily fall out of the packaging, for example, in a drawer or cupboard. Your convenience is important to us! Whole spices, such as allspice, release their aroma more slowly, so it's best to add them earlier in the cooking process.
