Ginkgo biloba is a large tree native to China. It first came to Europe and the United States from Japan, which is why it is also called Japanese ginkgo. Ginkgo biloba has been used for thousands of years. Ginkgo owes its health-promoting effects to its flavoid glycosides (mainly quercetin, kemferol, and isoramnetin) and terpenolactones (glycosides A, B, C, and bilobalide). The product is standardized to 24% flavoid glycosides and 6% terpenolactones. The product also exhibits antioxidant activity, meaning it neutralizes the harmful effects of free radicals.
