Cabbage is a green plant from the cabbage family. It is native to Europe, particularly the Mediterranean region. Its many species, hybrids, and varieties are cultivated as vegetables in many parts of the world. Cabbage's relatives include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, and kale.
Contrary to popular belief, cabbage is a healthy, easy-to-digest vegetable. Its bad reputation is largely due to heavy, high-calorie additives like bacon or pork knuckle. 100g of cabbage contains about 40 kcal and is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, and minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron.
