Like tomato, potato and eggplant, pepper is a plant of the nightshade family. Native to South and Central America, it came to Europe thanks to Christopher Columbus who brought it to Spain in the 15th century, today it is distributed all over the world.
Pepper is a tasty and conspicuous source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin E, and iron, zinc, magnesium, and calcium. People trying to lose unnecessary pounds do not have to worry about this, 100 g of pepper contains only about 25 kcal. Capsaicin in spicy varieties of this vegetable improves digestion and reduces pain.
Peppers can be eaten raw, grilled, or added to soups or sauces.
