Like tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant, pepper is a plant in the nightshade family. It originated in South and Central America and came to Europe thanks to Christopher Columbus, who brought it to Spain in the 15th century. Today, it is widespread throughout the world.
Pepper is a tasty and eye-catching source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin E, as well as iron, zinc, magnesium, and calcium. Those trying to lose excess weight don't have to worry; 100g of pepper contains only about 25 kcal. Capsaicin, found in spicy varieties of this vegetable, improves digestion and relieves pain.
Peppers can be eaten raw, grilled or added to soups or sauces.
