Pea (Lathyrus L.) is a plant in the Fabaceae family. It is native to temperate climates in the Northern Hemisphere. Known for thousands of years, it arrived in Europe in the Middle Ages, and its popularity continued at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Compared to other vegetables, peas are characterized by their high protein and fiber content, making them extremely valuable in a vegetarian diet. These sweet green beans are also rich in vitamins A, K, C, E, folic acid, niacin, and thiamin, and minerals such as potassium, iron, manganese, selenium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
It tastes great on its own or as an addition to vegetable salad. You can also use it to make a delicious cream soup.
