The grapefruit belongs to the rue family and is most likely a cross between a Chinese orange and a giant orange. It originates from the Malay Archipelago. In the 17th century, it was brought to the island of Barbados, where it became established. Today, it is cultivated around the Caribbean Sea and in many subtropical regions of the world.
Grapefruit is low in calories and very healthy. It can speed up metabolism and improve digestion. It also provides valuable nutrients such as vitamins A, C, B, and E, beta-carotene, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, iron, and zinc.
