Arugula, commonly known as rocket, is an annual plant in the Brassica family. It grows wild in Western Asia, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean, among other regions. It spreads easily and is rarely cultivated.
Eaten as a vegetable or used as a spice, arugula is a plant with an unusual, distinctive, slightly spicy flavor and an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Among other things, arugula boasts a high content of lutein and zeaxanthin; it is also a rich source of beta-carotene, iron, calcium, potassium, and vitamins B, A, C, and K.
Arugula is an excellent addition to pizza, salads, soups, or sandwiches. It pairs well with cheese, especially blue cheese, feta cheese, yellow cheese, and mozzarella.
