Moleweed is natural pollen mixed with bee secretions to form a so-called pollen intumescence. For this reason, it has a much higher nutritional value than the pollen itself.

The pollen is stored in the hive under a layer of honey and wax to prevent air from reaching it. Less suitable fermentation processes then take place there. It is a food source for young bees, larvae, and the queen.

It has a very rich composition, and its components are highly assimilable. Scientific studies have shown that bees that eat mustard are more resistant to microbial attacks and live longer than bees that feed only on pollen.
