Nettle leaves 200 g
Nettle - health from nature
Gardeners notoriously remove nettle from their gardens because they consider it a weed. However, nettle has valuable properties that are gaining it increasing recognition in herbal medicine. Its growing popularity is mainly due to the fact that it is widespread - after all, it has low growth requirements and is commonly found in the wild. It basically grows everywhere in the world, except for tropical areas and the two poles.
Nettle - what ingredients does it contain?
Herbal medicine values nettle primarily for its numerous ingredients. Their diversity makes it one of the most valuable herbs in the Polish climate zone. It is characterized by a high content of vitamins A, K, B2, and C, and additionally contains a rich supply of minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Nettle also contains active organic acids and phytosterols. It is worth knowing that nettle is the richest natural source of iron, which makes it ideal for use by pregnant women or women in menopause.
Regular consumption of nettle - Benefits
Due to its high iron content, nettle is particularly suitable for people suffering from a deficiency of this mineral. It is important to know that too low iron levels in the body can lead to serious consequences. The most severe include: pale skin color, a general feeling of fatigue, and in extreme cases even anemia. This is because iron deficiency in the body affects the bone marrow's reduced ability to produce hemoglobin, and consequently, oxygen circulation in the body is impaired, leading to hypoxia.
Pregnancy and Menopause - Special Recommendations
Nettle is also beneficial for pregnant women and women in menopause. Its regular consumption is an excellent supplement to the daily diet and has a detoxifying effect. Additionally, it supports the production of milk, which is the most valuable food for newborns and infants. The ingredients contained in nettle also accelerate the healing of swelling after childbirth.
Additional Benefits
The plant is recommended for consumption primarily due to its diuretic properties for people struggling with urinary problems. Nettle is also excellent for the spring and autumn equinox periods, mainly because of its ability to strengthen the body's overall immunity. People with acne-prone skin should also regularly drink nettle tea.
Nettle - Application
As with most herbs, nettle is most commonly administered as an infusion. Syrups are also useful for colds and other illnesses, as they strengthen the body's overall immunity. The cosmetics industry has also recognized the qualities of this plant, which is why it is included in many preparations for hair care and combating dandruff and itching. If you add nettle to your bath, you can ensure that your skin is well-nourished.
Contraindications
So far, no specific contraindications for the use of nettle are known. However, exceptions include people suffering from kidney failure. The diuretic properties of this plant can contribute to excessive strain on these organs. It is also not recommended to use nettle in diabetics.
Nettle Tea
Herbal teas are the most popular way to administer them. This is also the case with nettle. Preparing this infusion is somewhat more complicated than with other plants, but this activity should not cause major problems. First, put a measured amount of the dried herb into a pot, add cold water, and bring it to a boil. Then cover the pot and let it boil for another 5 minutes. After that, turn off the stove and let it steep covered for another 10 minutes.
