Common flax - characteristics of the plant
Common flax [Latin: Linum usitatissimum] is one of the oldest cultivated plants, originally from the Middle East and used in many areas for thousands of years. It is found only in special cultivation areas and is extremely rare in the wild. It is recognizable by its characteristic blue flowers, which brighten the landscape from June to July. The flax grows up to 70 cm tall, and its fruits are small seed pods containing 10-12 seeds each. These make it a valued plant resource.

Brown flax seeds contain:

• Omega-3 fatty acids, also known as alpha-linolenic acids, which have a positive effect on the circulatory system and have anti-inflammatory properties
• Lignans, which are characterized by antioxidant properties that can reduce the risk of cancer and have a positive effect on general health - it is worth knowing that flaxseeds have the highest content of lignans of all plant raw materials
• vegetable protein rich in the amino acids arginine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid
• Fiber, which has a positive effect on intestinal peristalsis
• Vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin E and vitamin K
• Minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc

Brown defatted flaxseed is obtained by defatting brown flaxseeds. This means that this product is characterized by a lower content of substances that are "removed" from the seeds during the pressing process. This doesn't mean the product is worthless—it has other benefits, but it's worth keeping in mind that it has slightly different properties.

Suggestion for use
Pour one teaspoon of ground flaxseed into 3/4 cup of hot water and stir until a slimy consistency is achieved. Take the porridge 2-3 times daily, preferably about half an hour before meals. The flavor of the porridge can be varied by adding milk, fruit, fruit juice, honey, or other treats.

Ground flax is also ideal for refining soups, homemade baked goods, sauces, breakfast cereals and muesli.

Oat flakes with ground flaxseed

Ingredients required:

• 1/4 cup oatmeal
• 1 cup milk
• 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
• 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
• a pinch of turmeric
• a pinch of ginger
• Fruit (optional)

Pour milk over the oatmeal and set aside overnight. In the morning, season, add your favorite fruits and flaxseeds. Set aside for 15 minutes. Enjoy!
