Common Flax - Plant Characteristics
Common flax [Latin: Linum usitatissimum] is one of the oldest cultivated plants, originally from the Middle East and used for thousands of years in many areas. It occurs only on special cultivation areas and is extremely rare in the wild. It is recognizable by its characteristic blue flowers that beautify the landscape from June to July. The flax plant grows up to 70 cm tall and its fruits are small seed capsules with 10-12 seeds each. These make it a valued plant resource.

• Omega-3 fatty acids, also known as alpha-linolenic acids, which positively affect circulation and have anti-inflammatory effects
• Lignans, which are characterized by antioxidant properties that reduce cancer risk and can positively affect overall health - it's worth knowing that flaxseed has the highest lignan content among all plant raw materials
• Plant protein rich in the amino acids arginine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid

Brown defatted flaxseed is obtained by defatting brown flaxseeds. This means that such a product is characterized by a lower content of substances that were "extracted" from the seeds during the pressing process. This does not mean that the product is worthless - it has other benefits, but it should be considered that it has somewhat different properties.

Usage suggestion
Pour a teaspoon of ground flaxseeds with 3/4 cup of hot water and stir until a slimy consistency is achieved. Take the porridge 2-3 times a day, preferably about half an hour before meals. The taste of the porridge can be varied by adding milk, fruit, fruit juices, honey, or other treats.

Ground flax is also excellent for enhancing soups, homemade baked goods, sauces, breakfast cereals, and muesli.

Oatmeal with ground flaxseeds

Required ingredients:

• 1/4 cup of oatmeal
• 1 cup of milk
• 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds
• 1 teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon
• a pinch of turmeric
• a knife tip of ginger
• Fruit (as desired)

Pour milk over the oatmeal and set aside overnight. In the morning, season, add your favorite fruits and flaxseeds. Set aside for 15 minutes. Enjoy!
