The pineapple is a plant in the bromeliad family, which includes about seven species. It occurs naturally in South America; it is cultivated primarily in Mexico, India, Thailand, and Brazil, as well as Hawaii and the Philippines. Its birthplace is Paraguay and southern Brazil. It was brought to Europe in the 15th century thanks to the expeditions of Christopher Columbus.
