Cardamom is primarily used to flavor flour and confectionery. It is added to cake batter, gingerbread, cookies, and coffee cakes. Thanks to its rich aroma, the spice imparts a pleasant fragrance to the products, which is retained even during baking at high temperatures.

Cardamom can also be used as a spice in sweet drinks, fruit marinades, liqueurs, and spirits. Experienced chefs use it to enhance the flavor of fish dishes. Cardamom should be used with great care. Due to its intense aroma, a large amount of cardamom can overpower the flavor of all other foods and spices in a dish. Therefore, one pod (already ground) or a pinch of the spice per 1 kg of dough is more than sufficient.

For liquids (soups or compotes), 1/3 of a grain is sufficient to achieve a pleasant aroma. The time needed to add cardamom to a drink or liquid depends on the type of dish. The seeds should be added five minutes before the end of cooking, and the ground spice a few seconds before.
