Paracetamol (also known as paracetamol) was introduced into treatment in Great Britain in 1956. Today, it is one of the most widely used painkillers in the world. Several dozen preparations (both simple and complex) are available on the Polish market.
Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic effects. It acts in the central nervous system and crosses the blood-brain barrier. Its mechanism of action is related to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) activity in the brain and spinal cord. Cyclooxygenase is the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Unlike nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), paracetamol has no anti-inflammatory effect because it virtually does not inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenases and prostaglandin synthesis in peripheral tissues. It also does not inhibit platelet aggregation or disrupt the coagulation process.

Precautions: It is very important not to exceed the recommended dosage, as a paracetamol overdose can cause serious side effects (including liver damage, sometimes fatal). Due to the risk of overdose, multiple paracetamol-containing medications should not be used concurrently. Check that the medications being used concurrently do not contain paracetamol.
