Common nettle ( Urtica dioica L.) grows wild in Europe, Africa, North America and Asia; Often considered a weed and heavily controlled, it is best known for the uncomfortable, burning sensation that direct skin contact leaves on the skin. Even if the nettle does not initially evoke pleasant associations, it is a plant with a number of health-promoting properties. As a herbal raw material, nettle was valued in ancient times as an aphrodisiac and as a remedy for rheumatism, poisoning and burns. Nettle is rich in vitamin C, B group vitamins, vitamins A and K and minerals: magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, silicon, iodine, iron, sulfur and potassium. Nettle tea can replace black tea or coffee as a strengthening and hydrating drink; it can also be drunk before bed as it has no stimulating properties.
