Lebanese or oregano is a herb known and appreciated by the Greeks and Romans in ancient times. Today, it is known throughout the world for its health-promoting properties.
Wild oregano oil is a source of vitamins A and C, flavonoids, and phenols, including carvacrol. Carvacrol gives oregano its characteristic aroma. Other components of oregano oil include triterpenoids such as oleanolic acid, sterols, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. This oil has a positive effect on digestive processes, thus supporting the digestive system. It contains high levels of antioxidants that reduce free radicals and protect cells. As a result, it has a positive effect on the immune system and can inhibit the body's aging process. It also has antibacterial and antiviral properties, making it useful during times of reduced immunity.
Its oregano content depends on the plant chemotype, subspecies, region, and even harvest. Wild oregano offered by Aliness is a 100% natural oil with a high and rare carvacrol content, reaching up to 90%. This concentration was made possible by using the "rectification/stripping" process, i.e., fractionating according to the relative amount of ingredients and using appropriate plant parts for their production. The product (distillate) of the previous process is added to each process step. This process is repeated until the desired concentration is achieved. Both lower and higher concentrations of carvacrol are blends of natural oils with synthetic carvacrol, which is derived from D-limonene. Synthetic oils have a different smell and taste. Oils with oregano that come as a blend of natural and synthetic carvacrol contain up to 35% natural and 65% synthetic carvacrol.
