DESCRIPTION
Vitamin E is a term used to refer to eight different compounds that fall into two categories: tocopherols and tocotrienols. Each category is further subdivided into alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin; it is produced only in plants, and its natural source is wheat germ oil, whole grains, and green leafy vegetables. Humans and animals cannot synthesize vitamin E, so it must be obtained from food. The term "vitamin E" is used only in the case of alpha-tocopherol, but tocopherols and tocotrienols have beneficial properties. The D-alpha-tocopheryl contained in the product has 100 percent of the biological activity of natural vitamin E.
Vitamin E is one of the most important natural antioxidants (it fights free radicals and protects the body from their harmful effects). This vitamin "captures" free radicals and converts them into harmless substances that are later excreted from the body. It protects polyunsaturated acids (omega-3 and omega-6) from oxidation—after oxidation, fatty acids are no longer polyunsaturated.
