Linseed oil is a product that can be called our Polish superfood. Its valuable properties have been appreciated since ancient times. This oil is pressed from the seeds of the common flaxseed. It has a yellow color, a pungent odor, and a distinctive flavor.
This oil is pressed at a temperature below 50 degrees Celsius. This is a necessary condition to preserve the oil's nutritional values, which are important to us. This applies primarily to fatty acids.
This oil has the right ratio of omega fatty acids for our body. It contains unsaturated fatty acids, which are very important for our body because we cannot synthesize them ourselves and therefore must be supplied with food. Omega-3 and Omega-6 in the correct ratio have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. These polyunsaturated fatty acids influence the condition of the membranes of all cells in our body. They also participate in the synthesis of many processes that affect the circulatory system, its regulation, and regeneration.
In addition, linseed oil has a positive effect on the functioning of internal organs and boosts immunity. It helps relieve skin problems, supports skin hydration, and increases its resistance to external environmental influences. It also contains a high percentage of vitamin E, an antioxidant. It is called the vitamin of youth because it slows down the aging process and, by removing free radicals from our body, has a positive effect on the entire body and protects it from many diseases. This vitamin impairs the proper functioning of vision, and its deficiency can increase susceptibility to infections.
Dietary flaxseed oil can be used in salads, breads, smoothies, and fruit smoothies. However, it should be noted that this oil should not be heated to preserve its nutritional value.
Linseed oil can also be used externally. It's an ingredient in many cosmetic products, but we can also apply it directly to the skin to lubricate and massage it into the skin and hair. It helps relieve skin problems, supports skin moisture, and increases its resistance to external environmental influences. It moisturizes the hair and helps prevent split ends.
Flaxseed oil should be stored refrigerated. Valuable omega-3 acids are very unstable and easily oxidize if products containing them are not stored under proper conditions. It should be stored refrigerated, preferably in dark glass and protected from light. Oils with a low linolenic content, meaning they contain very little omega-3 fat and a very high amount of omega-6 fat, unfortunately do not have the same health-promoting properties as the linolenic version.
